Review: The Bear in the Cave by Michael Rosen

The Bear in the Cave

by Michael Rosen

Illustrated by Adrian Reynolds

A bear who lives by the sea decides to give city life a try. But the city is so noisy! So busy! And then the bear gets lost…

Luckily four children find the bear and show him the way home, with much fun along the way.

A warm and happy story, perfect for reading aloud, and for parent and baby to share together.

This book and Bear Flies High are both really similar, with the same rhyming verse throughout the book. It is a lovely illustrated book, with the bright illustrations sure to capture the imaginations of young children, although again I would have to say that this book just doesn’t have the magic of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. To me it comes across as a distant second cousin in comparision.  I think part of my problem is that is so much longer and just so repetitive in the verses and sounds that I just had enough of it about half way through. But it would still be a great book to read to young children or those with a speech delay due to the repetitive sounds and phrases.

My Rating: 3.5/5 Good but not great.
