Review: Horse crazy! The Complete Adventures of Bonnie and Sam by Alison Lester

Horse Crazy! : The Complete Adventures of Bonnie and Sam

by Alison Lester

Bonnie and Sam are best friends. No one loves horses the way they do. When Bonnie whispers to them, they understand, and Sam always knows if they need a drink, or a hug, or a race around the paddock.

Come along with Bonnie and Same on four great adventures: The Shadow Brumby, The Circus Pony, Racing the Tide, Saving Mr Pinto

I loved this book! and I would have gone to horsey heaven if this book was around when I was a kid. It has awesome adventures, just risky enough to be believable with enough mystery and adventure to enthrall any young reader. In this version of The Adventures of Bonnie and Sam, there are four short stories which are set in their hometown of Currawang Creek. It centres on the girls, their friendship and their love of horses.  The other main characters are Drover – Sam’s Dad’s police horse, who has her own secret, Pants – short for Smarty Pants – Sam’s little dog who usually goes on the adventures with the girls, and all of the horses in the town; Whale, Bella, Biscuit, Chocolate Charme, Blondie, Tex, Horrie, Tricky and Tarzan.

The story lines are simple enough for younger readers to be able to read on their own and enjoy the story as it is, but there is enough excitement, mystery and adventure for older children to be swept away with it and feel like they are experiencing it themselves. It is a book, that as always with Alison Lester, leaves you feeling wonderfully fulfilled, and sighing to be right there in the bush, or on the beach, joining in with characters. I hope that she releases more books in this series as they should become very popular.
