Review: When the World Was Waiting For You by Gillian Shields

When The World Was Waiting For You

by Gillian Shields

Illustrated by Anna Currey

‘When the world,

Was waiting for you,

The air was bright.

The sun seemed new.’

A family of rabbits prepares for the much-anticipated arrival of a new baby by decorating the nursery and buying gifts. When all the waiting is finally over and the newborn comes into the world, they delight in meeting the baby for the very first time.

Full of tender moments to share and cherish, the lyrical words and exquisite illustrations make this a book to treasure.

‘From the author and illustrator team that brought you When the World Is Ready For Bed comes a book perfect for welcoming a new baby into the world.

A family of rabbits anticipates the arrival of a new addition to the family and then rejoices in all the pleasure that special little one brings.

This first picture book will allow children to think about their own birth and help prepare them for the arrival of a new sibling.

The traditional story and illustrations reminiscent of the work of EH Shepard and Beatrix Potter, give this the feel of a classic picture book. The padded jacket and gold foiling make it an ideal gift’ *Bloomsbury Press release

I really loved this book, it really tugs at your heart strings if you are a parent (a mother in particular), it is a simple, powerful and moving story that really captures the intense love and incredible emotions that bringing a baby into the world causes. And I can see that this will be a book that grows in popularity as word of mouth spreads, and it will definitely be a book that will become a gift for new mothers, time and time again.

My kid’s enjoyed reading and listening to it, but only understood the book at face level and couldn’t grasp the emotion and love behind the simple rhyming text.
