Review: Bashful Bob and Doleful Dorinda by Margaret Atwood

Bashful Bob and Doleful Dorinda

by Margaret Atwood

Illustrated by Dusan Petricic

Bashful Bob and Doleful Dorinda is a boisterous and delightful dissertation on discovering the uncharted depths of one’s own personality.

With Atwood’s rollicking wordplay and accompanied by Dusan Petricic’s playful and mischevious illustrations, Bashful Bob and Doleful Dorinda is a tale to be treasured by readers of all ages.

This is an interesting book, all of Bob’s sections are written almost entirely with B words and Dorinda’s are written almost entirely with D words. It is a fun and bouncy story that will enthrall most older children and will certainly encourage their imagination and use of words. They will be inspired to think of why and how words rhyme, will learn words that they may otherwise not come across (who has ever come across benelovent in a picture book!)
